In my paintings, I examine memories left suspended in place: within the dark landscapes of childhood time has stopped, and in place of the child there is now an adult.
Repetition and slowness are central to my working process: I build my oil paintings through dozens of versions and sketches, destroying and restarting them over and over again, while my subjects appear almost frozen into stillness.
The viewer is given an opportunity to both experience and reflect upon their own emotions, and to shift between the roles of an outside witness and a bystander.
